Yes, you can lose weight without dieting.
Studies show that the best way to lose weight and keep it off is to eat for good health. A 2009 study took two groups of people who wanted to lose weight. One group was put on a low calorie plan and the other group was told to just eat healthily. The second group could eat as much as they liked but were told to eat healthy options.
After one year the group who were eating for good health had by far the best results. By eating for good health they were inadvertently taking a low calorie, high nutrition route. Doing this meant they did not have to starve themselves. They did not feel the need to binge like many dieters do. They were giving their bodyâs all the necessary nutrients to function so calorie burning worked optimally also.
The âdietingâ group felt under pressure because what they could eat was heavily restricted. People in general find this style of diet very hard to stick to.
Other studies going back as far as 1971 questioned the value of the dieting mentality and suggested that a small reduction in calorie intake would be better for weight loss in the long term. In the 1980s and 1990s, studies showed that dieting was the cause of many eating disorders.
The diet mentality is one of extreme deprivation and trying to lose as much weight as fast as possible. This puts a lot of pressure on people and the body responds by slowing its calorie burning right down. So losing weight actually becomes harder and harder when on a âdietâ.
