Burn more calories, without even knowing that youâre doing it! Here are some incidental exercises that may help you do so:
1. Take the stairs rather than the lift or escalator, at work or at a shopping mall. Need to go to the toilet? Use a toilet on a lower or upper floor by taking the stairs.
2. Park further away from where you need to be and walk the difference. Try wearing a pedometer. Youâll be surprised what it does to your motivation if you can see your progress towards the goal of at least 10 000 steps a day.
3. Carry the heaviest item you need to buy around the supermarket rather than pushing it in the trolley. This is good for the biceps!
4. Do press ups in the kitchen while waiting for the kettle to boil.
5. Make an exercise date with a friend/colleague. You are less likely to surrender on the workout if you have made a pact with someone. If your diaryâs full, block time out specifically for exercise.
6. Buy a dog..... and walk it! Patting the poodle wonât lift your heart rate!
