You work hard on losing weight and reaching your goals but do you give yourself a pat on the back when you’re winning?
We so often are driven and committed to losing weight and do our best at either burning those excess calories or saying no to our favourite food temptations. But on losing the weight or sticking to your weight loss plan – how often do you reward yourself?
Keep yourself motivated
Rewarding yourself can make you feel good about your achievement, and may actually motivate you to keep going in reaching your bigger weight loss goals.
The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behaviour reported that motivation may be a major contributor to sticking with weight loss programmes.
Encouragement
Getting encouragement from others in a similar situation or even encouraging yourself can make a huge difference in your ability to win the battle.
Develop better habits
Rewarding yourself may even help you to develop better habits. For example, resisting the temptations to eat deserts after dinner every day, may lead to you eating smaller portion sizes when you do consume a treat after dinner. This not only will prevent weight gain, but will also offer other health benefits too.
Don’t use food as a reward
It is wise not to use food as a reward when trying to lose weight, as this may tip the scales in the opposite direction and leave you back at square number one. Opt to purchase yourself new clothes or an item that you’ve always wanted instead.
