Dr Phil, world renowned clinical psychologist and host of the popular TV show, Dr. Phil, says that you may be surprised to learn where your obsession is coming from.
He says that usually obsessive behaviour and compulsive thinking about food have nothing to do with food but everything to do with your self-image. You may be using food as a mechanism to exercise tight control in the hope that none of your deeper fears and emotions will creep up on you.
Some people tend to use food as a control mechanism, that is a substitute for having command over something else.
He suggests that we ask ourselves what would happen if we didn't focus on food so much and we let go of the control. Would we fear that we would be a worthless individual?
