Alissa Rumsey, a registered dietitian at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, says, "If you're watching your weight, or just trying to eat healthily, you don't have to deprive yourself of a great meal ⦠but, you do need a plan so you don't end up feeling stuffed and remorseful, after dinner."
She suggests that you try and consume smaller portions of foods. In this way you will still be able to allow yourself to taste all the foods prepared but you will hold yourself back from overindulging and eating too much.
Another rule you can create for yourself is that if you donât usually prefer to eat a certain food then just donât eat it. Otherwise you could end up taking in way more calories than you anticipated.
Bear in mind that, if you are on a weight loss programme, you can still treat yourself so donât restrict yourself too much. A little treat can be a great reward for hard work.
After dinner, try gathering a few family members or friends and go for a walk to help you burn off any excess calories. Dancing is also a great way to achieve this so have fun this holiday season, the healthy way!
