The study involved approximately 30 women and men. Each person participated at the University of Texas, in a four-and-a-half week training programme, that involved cycling hard for an hour a day for five days in a week.
Immediately after their cycling session, some participants drank chocolate milk whilst others were given a carbohydrate beverage. They were further given the same drinks to consume an hour later.
The group who drank the chocolate milk gained more muscle, with the help of the protein that is contained in milk and therefore was able to lose more body fat, as opposed to the group who consumed the carbohydrate beverage.
Dr Liz Applegate suggests that you should follow long workouts with a tall glass of chocolate milk as this may help you to lose some body fat and boost your muscle gains.
