How to avoid desk job weight gain

It's one of the most frustrating weight gain dilemmas for working women today. That is, picking up weight while simply doing their jobs.

Not to mention the unflattering – and seemingly unavoidable - “secretary's bum”.

Fortunately for us, there are quite a few ways to get around this.

Follow these tips below to help prevent weight gain (and lose calories at the same time!):

Eat smart

  1. Get rid of junk food in your desk drawer, and replace it with small packs of dried fruit, nuts and whole-wheat crackers. Bring healthy snacks from home such as baby carrots and pieces of cheese.

  2. Drink more water. It will keep you hydrated and get you moving to the loo more often, which burns more calories!

  3. Buy a small cooler-box. There are plenty of types, sizes and designs available from which to choose. These will go a long way to helping you feel motivated, and excited about bringing healthier food options to work.

Get moving

  1. Take a walk outside. Before work, after work or preferably – during your lunch break. This not only breaks up the day and gets you burning calories, but you also get in a bit of fresh air and sunshine, which is never a bad thing!

  2. Switch your chair for an exercise ball. This not only helps your balance, but it also works your abs at the same time – without you even realising it!

  3. Fidget in your chair. Even just a little helps to burn calories. There are tons of exercises you can do in your office chair, such as leg lifts, and stretching your arms over your head.
