Superfoods that won't break the bank

Shopping for healthy foods doesn't have to be expensive. In fact, in some cases it can actually work out to be a lot cheaper!

Pack your shopping basket or trolley with these five tasty, healthy superfoods that won't leave you cringing by the time you get to the till...

Carrots

Carrots are one of the cheapest veggies you'll find. They're an excellent source of vitamin A and can be eaten cooked or raw. Snack on them, add them to stews or salads, or enjoy them in soups and homemade juices.

Bananas

Bananas are packed with prebiotics and potassium, which is great for your heart. They're sweet and filling, and make the perfect snack. They're also delicious in desserts and smoothies, or as a sandwich filling or side salad.

Eggs

Eggs are loaded with a ton of essential vitamins, protein and other important nutrients. Enjoy them scrambled, poached, boiled, or fried in a little olive oil. They're perfect for breakfast, lunch or supper!

Cabbage

Cabbage is one of the most undervalued vegetables around. It's known to help protect the body against a host of cancers, and is full of vitamins C and K. Both red and green cabbage is fantastic in salads, or cooked with a little apple as a tasty side dish to a main meal.

Lentils

If meat's getting too expensive for your household, or you want to replace some meat in your diet, lentils are a perfect option. They're loaded with satiating fibre and protein, so you'll feel fuller for longer. Eat them in salads, curries, stews, or soups - and flavour them with herbs or spices to your heart's content!
