What the paleo diet is all about

The caveman diet

The paleo diet is also known as the 'caveman' diet or the 'stone age' diet. It's a high-fibre and high-protein eating plan.

According to Loren Cordain, PhD and author of The Paleo Diet, following a diet close to what he believes our prehistoric ancestors ate, will make us leaner. We'll also be less likely to develop cancer and other health-related problems.

What you can eat

The paleo diet is all about eating what the author believes cavemen ate in the stone age. That means a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts, and seeds.

It also means cutting out a lot of processed foods, refined sugar, salt, and anything that contains wheat or dairy.

Can vegetarians follow the paleo diet?

This diet focuses on eating meat and eggs, and doesn't allow for any types of bean or grain protein sources that vegetarians eat. It's not ideal for vegetarians or vegans.
