There's a big difference between being a little overweight and being obese. In America almost a third of all adults are obese.
When a person's weight is 10% to 20% higher than what is considered 'normal', they're considered to be overweight. If someone weighs 20% or more than what's normal for their height and weight, then they're obese.
A person's normal weight is determined by body mass index (BMI).
Your body mass index is a number between 15 and 40 which is calculated from your height and weight.
To find out what your BMI is, use this handy online tool. Besides finding out what your BMI number is, it will also tell you if you're overweight, underweight, normal, or obese.
