It's all well and good wanting to lose weight, but are you really giving yourself the best chance to succeed?

If you're serious about shedding a few extra kilos, you need a proper strategy for your meals and snacks.

The age-old saying goes, “If you fail to plan, plan to fail,” and in the case of your weight loss goals, this couldn't be more spot on.

How to plan ahead

  1. Choose a monitoring system that works for you – a calendar, a notebook, or your computer or cellphone.

  2. Record what you have to eat every day – including snacks and drinks.

  3. Note when you normally get peckish, and pack healthy snacks for those in-between meal times.

  4. Be accountable for any cheats. You're only human, so if it happens – mark it off and acknowledge the slip-up. Use it as ammunition for being better at your weight loss goals, and don't let it throw you off track.
