A home cooked meal on its own isn't the problem. It's all the things you do before serving, that can add unexpected inches to your waistline.
Things like eyeballing ingredients, and tossing in or pouring over to your heart's content. Not measuring ingredients can lead to extra calories.
So can over-tasting your food. Sure, you need to taste as you go along to make sure all the flavours are there, but be careful. Stick to a few small bites or sips and be mindful of what you're eating while standing over the stove.
Mindlessly pouring in a little cream here and some butter there, is also not going to do your waistline any favours. Rather substitute these ingredients for low-fat coconut milk or stock - with herbs and spices - to create flavour or make a sauce.
The trick is to enjoy cooking at home, but also to be mindful of what you're doing while you're cooking.
