Do you reward yourself after following a healthy diet all week long, or getting through a sweaty workout session?
Rewards are great, because they give us that extra push to keep going â especially when things get tough. But, making things like dessert a regular reward isn't going to do your waistline any favours!
That's not to say that you should deprive yourself completely, but let's be realistic â more often than not, when it comes to rewards, food is almost always involved.
"We never want to use food as a reward; it sends the wrong message," dietitian Constance Brown-Riggs says. "The wires get crossed, and we no longer eat because we're hungry; we eat because we were good and we deserve something."
Instead of food, choose something else to treat yourself to. Here are a few ideas you could try...
Treat yourself to a movie.
Get a mini facial, manicure, or neck and shoulder massage.
Splurge on a new book.
Visit a friend.
Buy a new shade of lipstick.
