Different body shapes

Body shapes include the ‘hour glass’ shape, the ‘apple’ shape and the ‘pear’ shape.

Characteristics of a normal ‘apple’ shape are having a full and generous bust, shoulders that are wider than the hips, a waist that lacks definition, slim legs and hips and bottom that are slim compared to your upper body.

A ‘pear’ shaped person would store fat in the thigh and bottom region.

The ‘apple’ shape is seen to be dangerous to you, if you are overweight.

How is it dangerous?

If you are ‘apple shaped’ and overweight, you are at a higher risk of developing heart disease or diabetes, as compared to someone who may be ‘pear’ shaped. This could be due to the fact that ‘apple’ shaped people tend to store fat around their internal organs, thus making them resistant to the effects of the hormone known as insulin.

Start exercising if you have not yet started an exercise program, but remember to consult your doctor first as to what levels of exercise are suitable for you to engage in.
