Relying on heat

Burning extra calories on some winter days can feel downright impossible, when all we want to do is snuggle up next to the heater to keep warm.

But it's exactly this – our reliance on heat sources like heaters – that might play a significant role in the size of our waistlines.

When we keep ourselves too comfortable, we reduce the amount of energy we normally expend to stay warm.

Temperatures and our eating habits

According to David Allison, PhD., we eat less food when we feel colder, compared to when we are in neutral temperatures.

This doesn't mean that you have to get rid of your heaters or make yourself sick by freezing in an effort to burn extra calories, but it could be a good idea to turn down the heat a little.

It's an easy way to cut calories without moving – and the perfect excuse to snuggle up to a person or pet for some extra body heat!
