What to watch out for at the salad bar

Go for fresh

Make sure you are purchasing a salad that contains fresh ingredients. Ask the shop assistant about the ingredients included in the salads if you need more information.

Avoid ‘shiny’ salads

‘Shiny’ salads such as pasta or potato salads are loaded with fat or mayonnaise, so be cautious when purchasing items from this section of the salad bar.

Go for high-protein salads

Salads that contain beans or chicken are high in protein and this is great for weight loss. Remember to check that the chicken is skinless and grilled, or else it may contain more fat than you would want to consume. Salads that contain bacon should be avoided.

What about eggs?

Eggs are also high in protein which is good for you, however the fatty egg yolks should be avoided.

Nuts?

Nuts contain healthy oils, but do not overdo it, otherwise you will take in more calories than you hoped to.

Avoid creamy salad dressings

Be cautious about salad dressings which are already on the salad. Creamy and high fat ones should be avoided or consumed in moderation.
