Just because you don't eat meat or you want to eat more plant-based foods, doesn't mean that you can't eat burgers.
In fact, there are some really delicious vegan and vegetarian burger recipes out there.
For this recipe, the âmeatâ protein is black beans and the rest of the ingredients are all vegan and really easy to find.
Here's what you'll need:
425g black beans, drained (use the tinned variety)
½ onion
1 teaspoon of hot sauce
½ a red or yellow bell pepper, diced
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ cup mashed potatoes (egg substitute)
1 cup bread crumbs
Dried herbs (optional)
Salt and pepper (optional)
A little oil for frying
Method:
In a large bowl, mash the beans and add the remaining ingredients, mixing until everything is well combined.
Shape into balls and press down firmly to form patties. Fry in a little oil, or grill your burgers over medium heat on the braai.
