The question - 'How does that make you feel?' - is an important one in the field of psychology. It is used to awaken people to their own sense of what is good and bad for them.
I have found this to be one of the most powerful questions to ask myself and others when trying to lose weight or get healthy through nutrition.
For example, we all (or almost all) LOVE the thought of eating chocolate cake. And if you let yourself get into it, the whole cake could disappear in a couple of minutes.
For those two minutes you may be able to push aside the guilt of eating the cake that you KNOW is not good for you and just enjoy it, but for the next few hours or the next few days your body feels sluggish, you experience a sugar crash, you may get stomach cramps and headaches, and when you look at yourself in the mirror you appear FATTER than you were BC (Before Cake).
So, was the five minutes of 'pleasure' worth the 24 hours of discomfort, self-loathing, and poor habit-formation? Did eating cake make you feel more good or bad? There's only one honest answer to this question, and if you can bring yourself to, you can use this question as a pre-emptive strike anytime you are offered the opportunity to eat something unhealthy.
The best part? You'll feel better, look better AND LOSE WEIGHT FASTER just by listening to your body's signals.
