Western society eats too much meat. Like WAY too much. Why? Because it's nice, and we don't have to hunt, catch and kill our own anymore.
Back in our hunter-gatherer days we would have been lucky to catch a small animal once or twice a week. This rabbit (or whatever) would then have been shared amongst the family, making for maybe one mouthful of meat per person.
Compare this to the last steak you ate, or how many times in the last week you ate meat and you'll begin to see the problem. From a nutritional point-of-view, I have no issue with meat-eating. (I do have environmental and ethical concerns around it, but that's neither here nor there).
I have no issue with meat-eating.
Mostly because it prevents us from eating the things we really should be eating in abundance - vegetables and fruit.
Anyway, apart from cutting down your meat consumption (which will help you lose weight and have more energy) you can also do yourself a favour by eating the BEST meat more often.
What is it?
FISH. Preferably fresh not frozen.
Grill it, bake it, poach it. Flavour it with spices. Add a ton of veggies or a giant salad and enjoy. It's cheaper than most other meat too (especially on the coast).
Why is it the best? It's high in protein and the best types of fats, and lower in hormones and other weird stuff you get in farmed animal meats.
