Fat, oil and butter can add hundreds of calories to your daily meals if consumed regularly. It is however, not always possible to prepare different kinds of meals by using cooking methods that do not involve oil such as steaming or boiling.
Here are two ways in which you can take more control of the number of calories that you are adding to your meals.
Do you estimate the quantity of ingredients that you add to the pot when preparing meals? Estimating ingredients, especially fat, oil, butter etc., can add many more calories to your meal than you realise.
If for example, you require just 20ml of oil when cooking, consider measuring it before adding to the saucepan. Estimating 20ml by pouring freely from the oil bottle may not always be as accurate as you think resulting in more (in most cases!) oil being used and thus more calories being gained.
A simple way to hold more control over the quantity of oil that you use when preparing meals is to use a spray bottle. It is a wonderful way to coat the bottom of a pot or saucepan with just a thin layer of oil as opposed to pouring oil straight out of the oil bottle.
