Ask 100 people how to exercise to get a toned tummy and they'll probably recommend some form of abdominal exercise - crunches, sit-ups, V-ups, planks and the like.
While these are not bad exercises to do, they are not the best exercises to do to get your body to burn the fat off of your midsection and expose your abs.
So, what is the ONE exercise I would recommend if you could only do one exercise with this goal in mind?
Yes, squats are primarily a leg exercise.
However, done correctly and with a weight that requires real effort, you will work your abs more than any type of crunch around, plus, squats fire up your metabolism MUCH MUCH MORE than abdominal training ever will.
High-intensity squats will work your legs, butt, back and abs all at once.
High-intensity squats will work your legs, butt, back and abs all at once. Your back and abs will have to work hard to keep you upright under a decent weight - this is their function anyway, not crunches.
If you don't believe me, learn to squat and go into the gym and do a squat workout. Let me know how you feel tomorrow. Just remember the squats must be challenging or you're not doing them heavy enough to get any benefit.
