Thereafter you can reinforce this knowledge by following good eating habits and reducing or eliminating the purchase as well as consumption of junk foods within the household and thus help prevent long term weight gain for both yourself and your family.
Remember you can adapt the manner in which you prepare food depending on the ages of your children. For example, make food preparation a fun activity for young children by asking them to cut shapes out of some fruits and vegetables using cookie cutters, whilst getting the older children to make vegetable smoothies.
Encourage them to suggest and try making their own variations too and be sure to offer some encouragement along the way! Healthy eating should start at a young age as this may help prevent weight gain when older.
