Top habits of successful dieters: Start well

People who are successful at losing weight - and people who are successful in general - know how to start the day well so as to set themselves up for success in the following 24 hours.

Many seem to get up pretty early, do some form of physical activity, some form of spiritual activity, have a nourishing meal and begin the work day with the most important task first. They also DO NOT RUSH - rushing is stressful, and stress leads to bad decisions.

My own routine is one that has helped me to succeed in weight loss, fitness and productivity, and I will use it as an example here. You need to find what works for you [Tweet this], but this could function as a good starting point for ideas.

My personal effective weight-loss and fitness routine:

  • 04h30 - I wake up, dress, have coffee and meditate
  • 05h05 - I leave for gym
  • 05h15 to 06h15 - train at gym
  • 06h30 - I shower, dress, eat fresh fruit and nuts for breakfast, and then do my most important work item for the day.
  • By 08h00 I am usually well into my work, and ahead of the curve in terms of email responses etc.

The issue here is that starting the day with a good routine means you're more likely to stick to a disciplined way of eating for the rest of the day, and if you've exercised early it means you don't have to worry (and therefore stress) about squeezing it in later.
