Here is a simple exercise that you can do for strengthening your upper back muscles and best of all is that it can be done in the comfort of your own home.
A yoga mat may offer some comfort when lying on the floor. You will require a few cushions or a bean bag as well.
Lie on a yoga mat and elevate your legs using a bean bag or some cushions. Ensure that your lower back is in a comfortable position – if not, try raising it with a soft pillow or cushion.
Now, as you breathe in, raise one arm. Stretch this arm up and then behind your head – you should be breathing out slowly at this point. At the end of your out-breath, drop your arm back to your side.
After you have done the above, repeat the routine using your other hand. You can do a few rounds with alternating between both arms and even working with both arms together.
Remember to keep the back of your waist in contact with the floor throughout this exercise, even if you cannot reach the floor behind you with your arms.
