This myth is one that's very seldom stated explicitly, but definitely exists in society. You can see it if you go to your nearest bookstore and look at the diet books. You'll see a bunch of diets aimed at men, and another bunch aimed at women.
Why would you look at this and think anything other than 'Oh, well then dieting must be specific to gender'?
While I accept that there are some hormonal issues that CAN make the weight-loss process different for men and women, I think the bigger issue is that if you think you need to diet according to your gender you are likely overthinking and thus overcomplicating your diet.
So here's the truth ... Both men and women need to do the SAME set of basic things consistently if they wish to lose weight. If you are not doing the basics no amount of gender-specific diet tricks will help you.
Do these things and no matter your gender you will begin to get healthy and lose weight. Do this for 12 weeks and THEN if you're desperate to do some 'fancy' diet for your gender try it out and see what happens. But only once you have proven that you can stick to the basics first.
