If you want to look toned and lean in your midsection you need to eat the right things. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, wholegrains and lean animal proteins. In addition to this you MUST avoid eating the WRONG things.
Here are some ideas of the general categories of foods that you need to stay away from in order to get and stay lean:
Most baked goods are made using refined flour, and lots of fat and salt. They have very little nutritional value or fibre. If you're going to eat bread make sure its whole-wheat (unrefined), full of seeds, or rye or other more coarse flours like pumpernickel. Whole grains are much better than refined products.

Donuts, biscuit and similar confectionery items share with savoury baked goods the problem of refined flour and excess fat, but have another problem to boot. They are covered in sugar. These two factors together are going to make fat loss nearly impossible, and if you're lean, a donut will bloat you up so you don't look it.
Ice-cream, milkshakes, sweetened yogurts and so on. These are problematic because most people don't digest dairy properly anyway, leading to bloating - very bad for looking toned. On top of this, the sugar puts your body into a really difficult state from which to lose fat. These foods are also high calorie and low fibre. [Tweet this]
Junk food, potato chips, etc. Anything deep-fried is terrible for your body. The oils that are used for this type of frying are pure trans fats - the most 'dangerous' fats around. Basically these are poisonous to the body. Losing weight is pretty tough when your body is trying to deal with toxins 24/7.
