If you've done some diet and exercise research of any sort, one of the messages that could get stuck in your head is that you NEED a LOT of animal protein and 'healthy' fat in order to get lean and build muscle.
While there is a debate around whether this is even true, this article is not about whether or not you NEED it, but about what happens when you undertake a really high-animal-protein or high-fat diet.
The phenomenon I have noticed is that people who go the high-animal-protein or high-fat (or both) route tend to throw some pretty important stuff out of their diets to accommodate the extra calories, because they are too full all the time, or aren’t losing weight (or both).
If you want to lose weight the only way to do so is with your body in a state of optimum nourishment from foods that are high in nutrients and fibre. You will not lose weight or get lean if you are in a state of lack. [Tweet this]
Eating 80% of your diet from animal products will not make you a healthier human being, and you will not lose weight easily - even with all the supplements in the world.
You MUST eat vegetables and fruits, whole grains and legumes, nuts and seeds as a major part of your diet if you want to get lean, because these are the foods that were designed to be the major portion of our diet.
So watch your protein and fat intake. If these elements make up more than 50% of total calories, be concerned, and make a change. Then sit back and watch the body fat start to drop off.
