Eating etiquette may affect how much you weigh

What are your eating habits and etiquette when sitting down to a meal? Do you eat whilst standing or in front of the television? Do you focus on what you’re eating and savour every bite?

Sitting at the table

Make every effort to have your meals whilst seated at a table. This will not only allow you to feel more comfortable whilst food is travelling to your stomach but it will also help you to concentrate on the task at hand. Eating while lounging, slouching or even lying down should be avoided.

Are you guilty of multitasking whilst eating?

Pay attention to what you are eating during mealtimes and leave other tasks for a later time. Many people tend to watch television during mealtimes and this often leads to overeating, not just of meals but snacks too! Rather consider mealtime as family time and have a little chat with one another.

Remember that adverts on television may tempt or entice you to snack on junk and processed foods so opt to avoid the television completely during meal time.

Chew carefully

Chew your food carefully and savour every bite. Enjoy the texture, colour as well as flavour of food. There is no need to rush. Eating slowly can also make you eat less as you are aware of your portion size.

Note that eating in a hurry may also leave you feeling sluggish afterwards so it’s worth your while to take your time when eating!
