Some people who eat healthily (often even following a low-fat diet), and engage in an exercise routine, still find that they are gaining weight. One of the reasons for this could be a hormonal imbalance.
Hormones are used by our body to carry out its daily functions. An increase or decrease in hormone levels is called a hormonal imbalance and this can affect both our health as well as weight.
Weight gain and weight loss can sometimes be attributed to a hormone imbalance. Here are some of the hormones with which this can occur: Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, androgen, insulin and cortisol.
Weight gain is often experienced by women who are going through menopause. Excess fat usually tends to accumulate around the abdomen area, causing one to appear bulky.
Consult your doctor if you find that you are gaining (or rapidly losing) weight. He or she will determine if you may be experiencing a hormonal imbalance by doing tests. You should also feel free to discuss with him/her any concerns that you may have regarding your weight.
