Proper hydration is one of the absolutely critical aspects of good health, good body function and WEIGHT LOSS.
There are all sorts of terrible side-effects of poor hydration levels in the body, from impaired brain function to skin problems, but the one thing you are going to really struggle with if you're not drinking enough water is losing weight.
It allows nutrients to travel around the body. It helps with cellular function. It allows your body to operate 'normally'. If you are unhealthy – your body is not in 'normal' operation mode – then it is using extra energy and focus to stabilise itself and cannot be concerned with the mechanism of fat oxidation. This makes getting an adequate level of hydration pretty essential to losing weight.
One of the most helpful ways to do this is to drink a BIG glass (500-700ml) of water right away as you wake up. This gets your system started on some clean liquids (many people start their day with acidic coffee) AND gets you a nice head start on your hydration for the day.
Thereafter, just keep drinking. I try to drink a glass of water every hour. That gets you around two litres, plus your 500ml in the morning, plus whatever else you drink that day. That's a good sort of number to aim for. Rather overhydrate slightly than be dehydrated.
So do it! Wake up and DRINK!
