Let's get one thing out of the way: There are so many more amazing things about Shonda Rhimes than the fact that she's lost 98 pounds this year (like the fact that she's written and produced multiple hit shows or that she's spoken publicly about wanting her children to have the great sex lives her characters have). But people can't stop asking her how, exactly, she did manage to lose all that weight. "Everyone is like, 'How did you do it?'" she told Women's Health for its October "Game Changers" issue.
Turns out, her secret involved being in the right state of mind. "Part of it is that I got really happy," she says. "Being really happy was an extraordinarily huge part of it, and I don’t know how to explain that except that I stopped eating my feelings because I got really happy."
Granted, she had to exercise and eat right, too (sorry, folks, no getting around that part): "I had this really amazing 'ah ha' moment," she says. "I realized that I could either spend my life thinking, 'I wish I could lose weight,' or 'I’m going to,' or 'I’m trying to.' One of those was going to need to happen, but I couldn't be the whiner anymore. I couldn’t be that person who like, 'I wish I could, I wish I could.' ... I’m always going to want to eat the fried chicken. I don’t like exercising and I don’t like eating white fish. But I was like, 'This isn’t ever going to be any fun, but you’re just going to have to do it anyway.' But you know what? I did it. Now I do like exercising and I do like eating white fish, and it’s weird that I do. But that’s the way it is."
Just another way in which Shonda is pretty much the woman crush of our dream.
