Why Molly Sims Couldnt Lose Weight Post-Pregnancy—No Matter What She Did

When you think of Molly Sims, you probably get a mental image of her in one of her countless Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. After all, that's how she rose to fame and is perhaps what she's most known for. But recently, the star's been in the headlines for something totally different: her struggle with thyroiditis, an inflammation of the thyroid gland that she developed while pregnant with her son Brooks, who was born in 2012.

Weirdly enough, this diagnosis likely comes as somewhat of a relief to the star, who tried countless ways to lose her baby weight after she gained 72 pounds (peaking at 204 pounds), all to no avail. At one point, she says she worked out for one hour and 45 minutes every day. At another, she wore a trash bag to sweat more when she exercised. She also tried wearing a corset, doing acupuncture, and going to a Chinese herbalist—and she was mystified when nothing worked. She was even more mystified when her neck became super swollen. "I kept asking people—I'm like, 'I don't feel right. Something's wrong with me,'" she said recently to ABC News.

It turns out, she was right: Four months after she gave birth, Sims' doctor diagnosed her with thyroiditis, and she finally began taking medication to regulate her hormones. Now, she has a message for other women out there: "My wish is that [women] don't stop asking people what's wrong," she says. "I'm like, 'If you think something's wrong, ask a million people.'"

She's totally right. If something—anything—feels off, go to the doctor. And if you feel like you've tried everything to lose weight and nothing's worked, you could have a thyroid issue, too.
