On Monday, a photographer who'd recently slimmed down told CNN that the key to his weight loss was…wait for it…taking pictures. But photographer Matthew Mullins wasn't talking about the pictures he takes of others—nope, he was talking about selfies. "Those photos certainly keep me honest and motivated," he said in the CNN article.
Mullins' selfie strategy is definitely a smart one. "If you're trying to slim down or change your body, taking photos of yourself along the way is a great way to monitor your short-term goals," says Lisa Young, Ph.D., R.D., author of The Portion Teller Plan. "That way, you can see your results in action—and seeing any sort of progress, big or small, encourages you to continue on." In other words, tracking your weight loss—whether it's through counting calories, measuring your waist, or taking selfies—will help you stick to your weight-loss goals.
