I exercise regularly, but am not able to lose the fat from my belly. Why is that? What can I do?
There are two reasons for not losing weight around your belly. One being, an improper diet and the other not exercising the right way. So, here’s what you can do to get rid of that annoying belly fat.
Exercise: In her book, Shut Up and Train, celebrity trainer Deanne Panday says that most people try to get flat abs by dong endless crunches, but this is the worst way to work your abs out. Your abdominal muscles are made of three layers of muscles that wrap around your body like a belt and connect your hips ribs and spine. That is why the best exercise to get rid of tummy fat are those exercises where your body is required to twist while in a standing or lunging position. So exercises like the axe chop, heel touches, single knee raise crunches, reach through, wide toe touch, starfish crunch and windmills. Here is a ten minute workout that can help you get flat abs in weeks.
Apart from that Deanne suggests that you start strengthening your back muscles before you work on your abs as they help protect you from over-straining your muscles and possible injury.
Diet: According to celebrity trainer Ramona Braganza, your diet is about as essential as a good workout. The famous saying muscles are made in the gym but abs are made in your kitchen holds true. Think of it this way, your abdominal muscles and the fat that is placed on top of it is dependent on your diet habits. Things like cutting down on your salt intake, having more fibre rich foods, food packed with potassium, and ditching artificial sweetners are all ways to get rid of that belly fat.
