Is it Better To Exercise To Lose Weight?

The answer to this this is a resounding yes.Exercise to lose weight and you will not only increase your chances of succeeding, you will get there much faster. Diet alone will help you to lose weight, but true weight loss is about burning calories, and you burn calories when you exercise.

Most people who want to lose weight will focus on their diet first. There is nothing wrong with this because as the saying goes, you are what you eat, and a healthy diet will give you great benefits. However when the word "diet" is metioned, many people tend to think along the lines of cutting back on calories. If you are eating a large amount of calories than you should be thinking of making a decrease in your calorie intake.

If however you are eating a little bit above the recommended amount, then cutting back on lots of calories will not be that beneficial or healthy. Say for example that you wanted to lose around 3 pounds a week, it would mean decreasing your calorie intake by around 1500 calories a day. This is a lot by any stretch of the imagination. This is why you have to exercise to lose weight.

The problem with cutting too many calories is that body is used to recieving a certain number on a daily basis. If you cut back a small amount to start with ( i.e. 200-300 calories), your boody will not mind too much and will adapt. If you have a large daily reduction in calories, then your body will mind.

Your body will feel threatened and it will assume that food is scarce and it is starving. To combat this it will click into starvation mode. This is when your meatabolism slows down and tries to hang on to as many calories as possible. This is the most common reason as to why so many people start to see their results slow down after a few weeks or months. There is a good chance that this is due to your body entering starvation mode.

When you exercise to lose weight, what happens is that your metabolic rate increases, so that your body starts to burn calories at a much faster rate. This means that even if you don't cut back on calories, you will still start to lose some weight because your body needs to burn calories to cope with the exercise that you are doing. Burning calories equals weight loss.

So if you cut back a little on your daily calories and start exercising, then you are virtually doubling your results without having to starve yourself. If you really want to succeed then you have to exercise to lose weight.
