The Fast Way to Lose Weight - Part 1

It's time for us to talk about a very important topic about weight loss - how to do it FAST. If you are looking for a fast way to lose weight, then the first thing you need to do is focus on your nutrition. The foods you eat are what will ultimately determine how successful you are.

Exercise is important too, but let's think about the math here for a second. There are 168 hours each week, and let's say you spend 5 of those hours exercising. That is roughly 3% of your week that you spend working out. You can workout as hard as you want to, but 3% of your week is not going to produce 100% of your results.

Let's also say that you burn 300 calories each time you exercise. That comes out to a total of 1500 calories you burn off each week just from exercise. This is great, but it can be easily negated by food such as having 1 prepackaged blueberry muffin, 2 extra cups of oatmeal, 2 Pepsi's, and a little bit of mayo. And remember, this accounts for the whole WEEK, not just for 1 day. The point is that you can work your butt off in the gym but if your diet is not on, you will find it very difficult to make any permanent changes.

So the fast way to lose weight is to FIRST pay attention to what you are eating. There are lots of other benefits to exercise but with strict regards to weight loss you need to remember that the scale is not going to move until your foods on your grocery list change.

Here are three nutrition tips to get you started:

1. Realize the important of diet vs. exercise.

As mentioned before, diet and exercise are a great way to lose weight. BUT, this will only happen if you put your diet first. Look at all the calories you burn off with exercise as "bonus calories". Your nutrition is what counts as the "primary calories".

2. Write down what you eat

There was a recent study done on what happened when people recorded everything they ate in a food log. They found that the people who wrote down what they ate lose TWICE as much weight as those who didn't. Writing it down is another one of those "magic" tools for weight loss. You may think that you are eating everything right, but sometimes looking at it on paper is a clear indicator for where you can make significant improvements.

3. Eat more fiber

Fiber is a very overlooked food for weight loss. Eating fiber requires your body to use a lot of energy during digestion. Fiber will help you feel full as well. Some great examples of fiber are vegetables such as broccoli and asparagus. Another great source of fiber is shredded wheat.

Eating right to lose weight does not have to be a challenge. When you get this part down you will find yourself reaching your weight loss goals faster than any other method. There are lots of different diets out there that all tell you something different, but they are really all based on the same concept: eat better foods at the right times. Remember that ANY diet will work if it involves taking in fewer calories than you currently are. You could start eating 500 calories per day of nothing but potato chips and you will lose weight. But you want to lose weight and be HEALTHY while doing it.

This is why eating good proteins, fruits, vegetables, fiber, etc. will help you lose weight and become a healthier person in the process. Be diligent and if possible, have someone else go through the process with you for some extra social support. Good luck!
