How to Lose Weight in Addition to Food and Exercise

As any health expert will tell you, there is no substitute to exercise in terms of the ability to lose weight at a good speed as well as improve your overall health. While there are diets you can start that are effective for helping you lose weight, they are not nearly as permanent a solution as exercise and athletics. Increasing the strength and health of your body and muscles is far and away the best way to lose weight and keep the weight off - and it will help you live longer as well.

But exercise is not something that everyone can do regularly. Whether it is due to a busy schedule, general laziness, injury or some other reason, not everyone can exercise regularly and some people don't exercise at all.

Those people that do not exercise look to dieting. Dieting is a good way to lose weight as well, especially if your eating habits are generally out of control. Eating specific foods that are low in fat and good for your metabolism is a good way to stay healthy and lose weight.

Dieting, however, is not quite as long lasting as exercise. Without exercise, your metabolism will start to slow regardless of your diet and you will end up needing to eat less and less until you start to become unhealthy, your metabolism slows even more, and the weight begins to come back. Still, a good diet is very healthy and in addition to exercise a good diet will ensure that you are able to lose weight effectively and keep the weight off.

An Additional Way to Lose Weight

The combination of exercise and dieting is the best way to lose weight and keep weight off. However, there is one final tip that few people know about is what you do in between exercising and eating.

If you have trouble losing weight despite both exercise and proper nutrition, one thing to look at is what you are doing right now. People that have problems losing weight tend to sit very still when they are sitting down. But fidgeting and jitteriness actually help you lose calories, even when you are stationary.

It seems counterintuitive that fidgeting with useless things and moving in your chair is a recipe for losing weight, but the truth is that moving is always going to burn more calories than remaining immobile. Those that are constantly moving, even if it is because they simply feel antsy or are nervous, are far more prone to losing weight every day due to the excess calories they burned.

If you have been dieting and exercising and still have not been able to lose weight, try to add some more movement in your life. How you accomplish that is up to you. You can fiddle with Chinese stress balls if you like or simply stand and pace while you watch television, but you want to keep moving, because if you are able to add that extra bit of energy into your daily routine, you will continue to lose weight even during off time.
