Does A Low Calorie Diet Help You Lose Weight Fast?

Wondering how to lose weight? If so, one approach that you may be considering is a very low calorie diet. Most people come across these at some point or another and definitely give them some consideration due to the fact that they seem to promise highly rapid weight loss results.

But, are these really the best way to learn how to lose weight?

Or, are they going to just lead you astray?

Let's take a quick look at a few of the main points to remember about a low calorie diet and its ability to help you learn How to lose weight.

The Rate Of Weight Loss

The very first thing that you must keep in mind with regards to that low calorie diet plan is the rate of weight loss you can expect to see.

When you first go on a very low calorie diet, weight loss will be quire rapid, often to the tune of three to five pounds per week. From then onwards, it may slow down, but generally you'll still see two or three pounds of weight loss for about a 3-4 week period.

After that time however, the body catches on to what's happening and the rate will slow down as the metabolism adapts to the incoming calorie intake. At that point, you're in for some trouble.

The Type Of Weight Loss

The second thing to think about is the type of weight loss that you'll see. This is where many people have issues.

You aren't going to be losing all that much fat mass while on a very low calorie diet. Instead, you'll lose lean muscle mass and water.

This is not going to serve you well in the long-term since the water weight loss will come right back on once you eat normally again and the muscle mass tissue could take months to rebuild.

Plus, you'll end up looking like a smaller version of your current self - or worse due to the loss of lean muscle tissue.

The Long-Term Consequences

Finally, the last issue with very low calorie diets as a means to learn how to lose weight is the fact that they can cause long-term negative consequences.
First, they're going to reduce your metabolic rate, so you'll be burning calories much more slowly as you go about the day. This could then mean that you struggle to see a continued rate of weight loss from then on forwards.

Second, as you lose that lean muscle mass, this means you're more susceptible to fat gain after coming off the diet, so you could get some serious rebounding going on.

Finally, because you're taking in so few calories in the first place, this puts you at a greater risk of experiencing nutritional deficiencies, so that could cause other health related issues to occur.

So, if you want to learn how to lose weight safely, your best bet is to use a low calorie diet, but not an extremely low calorie diet. Keep your calorie level moderate and you'll see far better results.
