One of the benefits on modern technology is an ever-advancing line of diet products that not only taste great, but are also low in calories, fat grams, and carbohydrates. Thanks to the Atkins trend more and more people have given up sweets for proteins. The only way for manufacturers to gain a competitive advantage in the market today is to prepare and create sweets that are low in sugar and low in calories.
If you're trying to stick to a low-carb diet, you might as well accept the fact that you're not going to be able to eat sweets all that often. If you're trying to eat a balanced diet of all the major food groups, you may have room in your diet for low fat desserts, candies and potato chips. I know there are times where I simply must satisfy a craving or I will feel like I am losing control of my diet. In general, low fat, low sugar snacks help to fill the void, and keep me on my diet for longer periods of time.
Two of my favorite low calorie desserts are rice cakes and microwave kettle corn. Both of these items are higher in carbohydrates than other dessert options, but they also tend to leave me feeling like I have eaten more calories than I actually have eaten. When you opt for snacks that are higher in fiber, you can often achieve that "full" feeling that you just can't get from candy and other empty calorie snack options.
When I am trying to follow the Atikins diet, I tend to eat snacks that are protein based. One of my favorite Atkins friendly snacks is string cheese, and other packaged cheese products. I also enjoy a number of different low-calorie, low fat desserts including frozen yogurt, non-fat pudding, and angel food cake and cookies made with fat substitutes. In some cases, the best way to feel like I have eaten a fat-laden dessert is to sample a very small portion of my favorite desserts.
