I remember the first time I got into a spin class, like it was yesterday. You know that structured class at the local gym… That class that lasts an hour long, and feels like it is never going to end. The longest regimented hour of your life…program where some perky blonde turns on some fast paced music and you're peddling you hinny off just to keep up the pace of the class...
What is so funny is that you keep hearing the instructor say "It's your ride, make sure you get the most out of it". While at the same time it's up, down, up, down, up, aggressive, up, aggressive, down…up…and on and on. Well you have the point by now I'm sure. I will say that it's probably the greatest endurance hour I go through, and I get the best sweat up after that class. So much so that I really feel that I am now addicted to that portion of the program. Heck, the guy who sits next to me every Friday must exude a cup an a half of sweat, compared to the rest of the class, because there is always a "puddle" under his bike when the lights go back on.
So back to the more important matters at hand; burning fat will cause you to drop the weight you desperately want to lose, but you already know that, right? So how are you going to do that? The very best answer I can tell you is to get your body moving, and get it moving faster than you are going at it today.
For me, I joined a gym, hired a personal trainer, and went through four of then before I found the right one that was right for me. Then I learned all I could from this person and fired him, so I could take on the personal responsibility of self-motivation, as a means to an end of my body fat issues.
Any trainer will tell you that you have to match some sort of cardio exercise against a weight lifting, muscle developing program, in order to see maximum results. After a while on the treadmills and elliptical machines I got board, and noticed that the spinners were having all the fun. One day I got brave and literally jumped right in to the middle of a class, and away I was going… Biking your butt off is what I call it, and it really work, so long as you are willing to put in some effort and follow along with what the perky blonde is saying.
Even if you think you can't go an hour, the fact is that you can go at some pace for some amount of time. As a matter of fact, my day was only 45 minutes, and I made it all the way. You can to; you just have to get started. So remember that "eat all you want" line at the top…? After that first spin class I had burned so may calories during that hour, that I was actually craving food, and couldn't get enough to fill me up. Moral of the story, eat right, spin right, live healthier…
