If you're like most people, you think hopping on the treadmill for 30-60 minutes 4 or 5 times a week is the best way to lose that flab around your belly.
If that's true then why is that spare tire still hanging from you?
The truth is typical cardio is a gigantic waste of time. You'd have more success by taking a nap. All slow cardio does is make you body efficient at doing slow cardio. What's worse is that it begins to break down muscle mass for energy, meaning your metabolism slows down. In other words, you can actually gain more fat weight by doing slow cardio.
Instead of getting fatter and wasting hours in the gym, turn your cardio workouts upside down. Instead of slow cardio for long periods of time, do very short but intense workouts instead. These are called intervals and the typical interval is 30 seconds of running followed by 1 minute of walking. Another interval is 20 seconds of running with 10 seconds of rest.
In either case, running can be substituted with whatever you like. The only thing that you must remember is that 20 or 30 seconds of exercise you are giving it your all. This is as close to 100% maximum effort as you can muster!
What these workouts do is overwhelm your body's need for energy. Since it can't muster it up or since you've used it all up, the body begins to break down stored fat because it needs the energy NOW! Study after study has proven at how effective interval training is for losing fat. In fact, the same studies have gone to shown that typical, slow cardio is actually the worst thing you can do to yourself if you want to lose fat!
If you don't believe me, that's fine. I'll leave you with this: look at pictures of distance runners vs sprinters. Who has the better looking body?
Turn your workouts upside down if you want to start seeing those pounds melt off!
