It appears by the rising weight of Americans that weight loss is a complicated and elusive goal. The truth is that weight loss is a simple equation of nutrition and exercise. Weight is gained or lost depending upon your diet and how much you move your body. Stop thinking about losing weight quickly because it takes a lot of time and effort in order to lose weight effectively. You can't just lose weight in an instant. You really need to work hard on it because in order to lose 1 pound of fat, you need to burn 3500 calories. The formula to lose weight is simple. You must burn much more calories than the calories you consume.
1. You should really focus on limiting the amount of sugar that is in your diet. Sugar holds no nutritional value and should only be eaten on a very limited basis. Stay away from foods high in sugar or filled with hidden sugar ingredients.
2. To help with calorie cutting, you can also buy simple snack foods and eat them every hour or two, such as a single serving of applesauce, a banana, or a low-fat pudding serving. These little treats will make you feel as if you are eating often, but will not bulk you up in weight. You may not have to eat less, in fact, you may be able to eat more and more often, but by realizing how many calories you are taking in, you can find easy and creative ways to lose weight without losing enjoyment.
3. When you're on a weight loss mission, write everything down in a journal or blog. Have a food journal and a regular weight loss journal. The food journal helps you feel a sense of accomplishment and will assist you in figuring out what the problem is if you hit a plateau or gain weight. The weight loss journal or blog is an outlet for all your feelings during this time. You can also document your success and keep a visual record with pictures in your weight loss journal.
4. Eat 5 meals a day. 3 main meals breakfast lunch and dinner and two snacks in between. This will help you avoid hunger pangs. Make sure you eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day. Man is a grazer not a binger and we need constant nourishment throughout the day.
5. Watch your carbohydrate intake. Although you do need a certain amount of carbs to keep your body functioning properly you don't want to overdo it. In fact, many people suffer from a carb addiction and end up eating twice as much as their body wants or needs. If you notice that you just can't stop eating pasta or bread you might have a carb addiction. It is even more important for you to cut out the carbs. Increase water and vegetables to help you feel full throughout the day if you notice hunger or carve cravings sneaking in.
6. There are many nutritional calculators available on the web to help you count calories, vitamins, minerals and decide what your nutritional needs are. It is as simple as imputing your sex, age, height, weight and daily exercise activity into the calculator. Once you have put this information into a nutritional calculator, you will be told how many calories you need to take in per day to maintain or lose weight. The calculator will give you your BMI (body mass index), which will tell you your daily energy expenditure and your estimated energy (calorie) requirements.
7. Eating lots of foods rich in fibre helps keep food moving through your bowels. Fiber bulks you up and makes you feel full.
The average person could lose around 10 pounds a year just from doubling their fiber intake. Start your day with a high fiber cereal and keep eating all day.
