Tumescent liposuction is a form of liposuction that is believed to be the safest means of performing liposuction which also involves minimal loss of blood and which does not require using pain medications following the procedure. In fact, in a number of instances tumescent liposuction can even be performed on a patient while they are conscious and under local anesthesia and it is this very factor that ensures that risk from surgery is minimized because using local anesthesia is quite risk free whereas use of general anesthesia involves higher risks, especially in terms of blood loss.
When tumescent liposuction is performed the surgeon generally injects the patient with some lidocaine as too epinephrine solution which will then make the fatty areas swell up and also harden; or in other words it makes the area tumescent. Once the affected area becomes firm it then becomes very easy to remove the excess fat which can easily be separated from the rest of the body tissues. The best part about performing tumescent liposuction is that this procedure does not lead to harming other unrelated tissues and so there is reduced blood loss and the results too are more desirable as well.
Also, the injection of epinephrine means that there is less loss of blood because the blood vessels in the area surrounding the fatty areas will shrink and this reduces the likelihood of bleeding and in fact many would go as far as saying that tumescent liposuction is an almost bloodless procedure.
When it comes to the actual removal of hardened fat use of a small sized cannula (known as microcannula) is enough to do the job and in addition once the procedure has been completed the area left behind will become much smoother and also firmer. Use of microcannulas ensures that the surgeon is able to shape the areas more successfully and in addition the surgeon is also able to take care of any irregularities in the skin such as dimples and dips.
In a few instances, the surgeon may decide to perform tumescent liposuction under general anesthesia though the norm is to perform the procedure under local anesthesia. Furthermore, it is also possible to combine tumescent liposuction procedure with other procedures and when such an option is chosen then of course there is need to use general anesthesia.
Tumescent liposuction is a new procedure and one that is fast becoming the most popular form of liposuction. One reason for its growing popularity is the fact that tumescent liposuction costs are low and quite affordable. However, how much a person has to pay for their tumescent liposuction procedure will depend on a number of factors and so there is no one standard cost that is applicable to everyone’s needs.
