HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (May 11, 2009) – Hilton Head Health (H3) joins the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports to challenge local Hilton Head Islanders to get active and fit during the month of May. On Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 8:30 a.m., H3 will host a Beach Boot Camp Challenge at Coligny Beach. Registration for the event is at 8:15 a.m. on that morning. All local teens and adults welcome. There will be fitness activities, raffles, snacks and more.  Â
Adam Martin, fitness director of Hilton Head Health, comments, “We’d love to have island residents and tourists join us for this event. We hope their participation at the H3 Beach Boot Camp Challenge will lead to a more active lifestyle.â€
According to Melissa Johnson, executive director of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, which started National Physical Activity and Sports Month in 1983, “Americans of all ages need to incorporate more movement into their daily lives. Adults need at least 30 minutes of activity 5 days each week. This can be done by choosing to bike or walk instead of driving, taking stairs instead of elevators, or pushing a lawnmower instead of riding one. Children need at least 60 minutes of daily active play. They need to run, climb, jump, and just get up and move around, away from their desks, the television and computer games.â€
