When you first wake up in the morning, do you ever have a sinking feeling like you’re stuck in a rut and can’t get motivated for the day? Sometimes it is really hard to get out of a rut once you’re in it. Here are some great ways to get motivated again.
1.   Divide and Conquer
Use the wisdom of military leaders and look at your day like a battlefield. It is completely discouraging to charge right in to try to tackle an overwhelming army in one big mass. Divide it up into smaller groups and conquer them throughout the day. It is always effective to break your tasks into manageable steps. That way you can complete each step fully and feel satisfied with your progress instead of spinning your wheels trying to do everything at once.
2.   Get Space
Sometimes the best way to get out of a rut is to come at it with a fresh perspective. Go for a walk, do something simple like gardening or a working through a crossword puzzle, ride your bike for a while. The goal is to let your mind rest and change up your environment so that you can return to your task with new ideas. Einstein was known to play the violin to take a break from the rigors of the problems that he was trying to address. If it worked for him, it should work for you!
3.   Nap Time
Remember nap time in Kindergarten? Wasn’t that great? There is no reason why you should deprive yourself of such a wonderful thing just because you’re a “grown-upâ€. Kids get so many things right. When they’re tired, they sleep. You should do the same. Don’t keep trudging along trying to pull yourself out of a rut when your body is exhausted. You’ll just be wasting your time. Even if you’re just taking a 15-minute power nap, this will often give you the boost you need to get back to the task at hand and stay motivated.
4.   Force Yourself to Take a Break
Sometimes the answer is to simply step away for a couple of days. You’ll be surprised what this can do to change your perspective. If you can’t manage a long break, even a short one can sometimes be the thing that gets the ball rolling again.
5.   Keep plugging away
Sometimes, the only way out is through. If stepping back and taking a break isn’t helping, sometimes the answer is to simply to keep pushing. There are so many examples of success that come after long extended effort in spite of discouragement. It has been famously reported that James Dyson, inventor of the Dyson vacuum, took 15 years and built 5000 prototypes before he came up with the best vacuum on the market.
6.   Eat Right
It is amazing how much your diet affects the way you feel. If you aren’t eating right, you’ll have less energy and less motivation. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and protein. Whey Protein is one of the best sources because the isolate variety is 90% protein, it tastes good, and is easy to digest. It is an all-natural gluten-free byproduct of dairy and is used by exercise enthusiasts and professional athletes. Another excellent way to enhance your diet is to take a good daily multivitamin. This will give you the nutrients that you may be missing like Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.
We all lose motivation sometimes, but with these techniques, you can pull yourself out of that rut. Soon you’ll be fired up and excited when you wake up in the morning.
