The best exercises to lose weight don't last for hours like people think they do. Aerobic workouts are the most popular for some reason despite the fact that they are extremely ineffective which is why you have to do them for hours every single week before you see any type of result. Not to mention it can cause knee and foot pain that takes days to go away. But these things in itself tell you that cardio is not the best way to go about weight loss. First off, are you aware that over time, your body becomes adapted to cardio workouts and burn off less and less calories the more you do them? That's right, while your 1st cardio workout could have burned 500 calories, by the time your 5th session comes around, you could just burn 100 calories! It is horrible to imagine that you could be spending up to 90 minutes on the treadmill, just to burn a measly 100 calories! How is this possible? Here's an example: if you went out right now and ran 10 miles, you would find it hard at first right? But if you did that 10 mile run for a few weeks, guess what would happen? It would get easier! And this is the same way your body works, once it adapts to a physical movement, the difficulty subsides and the calories burned decline. Now you are probably thinking "which exercise to lose weight should I do?", and the answer to that are "short-burst" workouts. What are short-burst workouts? They are strength training workouts that are only 15 minutes in duration but give you a total body workout equivalent to a 90 minute cardio session. The aspect that makes short-burst workouts so great is that they burn carbohydrates instead of calories, which makes it harder for your body to store fat. This is great for long term health and keeps your weight loss consistent week after week. Short-burst workouts also keep your metabolism running high for up to 3 days, which is why you only have to do them 2 or 3 times per week! Where do I learn more about these workouts? A great resource for learning all of these workouts is with Rob Poulos' the "Fat Burning Furnace" program. Rob is an advocate of not only short-burst workouts but also a dieting technique "calorie shifting", that tricks your metabolism into burning more calories.
