If you're researching or considering medifast, I was in your shoes about six months ago. I'm a 30 something mother who is getting married this summer. I've needed to lose weight for a very long time and have tried every diet under the sun. Nothing worked long term, probably because I could not stick with any of the diets.
I'm a big snacker. I like carbs and dessert foods. When I feel deprived, I get depressed and this generally did not help my weight loss cause.
A coworker of mine started losing a good deal of weight on medifast. One day, in the office cafeteria I impulsively asked her if I could taste a bit of her lunch. We're good friends and I felt comfortable doing this. I knew I needed to taste this food and see if it was something I could live with. On that day, she was drinking a chocolate shake, but in the following days, she would allow me to sample whatever medifast meal she was eating that day.
I pretty much liked everything she offered me because a lot of medifast's meals are the snack types of foods that I was already eating. Once I'd taste tested about two weeks' worth of food, I knew I would be ok to eat it long term.
I started medifast in October of last year and have never looked back. I saw results very quickly and this motivated me to keep right on going. I've become a master at quickly preparing my lean and green meal and I've learned to add sugar free syrups to the shakes, fruit drinks, lattes, oatmeals and puddings to change them up a bit so I have lots of variety.
As I began to see pretty dramatic results, I decided to add movement to my routine to see if I could kick up even more weight loss. I basically just started walking with my daughter after dinner. This worked wonderfully so I added a bit of weights right before bed. This put me into fat burning mode even more. I'm by no means an athlete and I've never enjoyed exercise, but it's no big deal to walk more (I am even up to power walking sometimes) and do a few reps of weights. I feel better than I have in years.
I think that the reason this diet worked for me when so many others hasn't is that it's just something that I can live with. I like the foods so it's no big sacrifice. I can still eat desserts and snacks. I've also been willing to keep with the moving because walking and lifting a few weights isn't asking that much.
I would advise anyone looking for the right diet to not give up on the hunt. I know how frustrating it is and deep down, I don't think I ever really believed I'd find mine, but boy did I and I'm so much more happier, productive and healthy. Whatever you do, don't give up!
