If you spend any amount of time on weight loss forums, you'll likely see references to or questions about medifast momentum products. There seems to be some confusion about what these products are designed to do and how they work. In this article, I will share what I have learned when researching these products and will discuss my opinions on them.
The momentum metabolism boosters come in the form of two different products: the meals (banana crème shake, cappuccino and latte) and the flavor infusers: (green tea lemon, mixed berry and strawberry lemonade). They can be ordered individually or as part of a package. The flavor infusers are sprinkled into bottled or tap water so they're super easy to assemble.
I find that the meals do not taste much different than the regular versions. To me, the flavor infusers taste a lot like Crystal Light.
These products work to boost your metabolism by the addition of both 100 mg of caffeine and 90 mg of epigallocatechin gallate (which is a potent antioxidant found in green tea). This combination is designed to increase resting metabolic rate and burn more calories. The company states that although these products are by no means a substitute for exercise, consuming three of the products per day is the equivalent of running ¾ mile for ten minutes.
If you are on Medifast's five plus one plan as I am, you're allowed three of these boosters per day. As I understand it, this can be any combination of flavor infuser or meal.
I did experiment with these during a two week period last month. I did lose more weight during those weeks, but eventually I backed off because the plan's regular meals have been working well for me and I hesitated to change things.
However, I know folks who have had success with this for an upcoming event or after hitting a plateau. They either wanted or needed a quick boost. I also know people who sporadically use these products as part of their weight loss plan even if they are not on this diet full time.
Of course, you will want to use these products as directed. It certainly would not be a good idea to overdo them and consume too much caffeine. You don't want to do your body more harm than good.
I still have some of these left over and I find the taste to be fine. I may reintroduce them as we reach bikini season but my attitude towards changing up my diet plan has been if it's not broken, why try to fix it?
I have a nice routine that I can live with and I've had fabulous results. I really haven't felt the need to change anything, but I do feel that these products can work in the situations that I have described.
