I recently heard from someone who was attending a class reunion in about three weeks. She was generally happy with the way that she looked, but wanted very much to lose those "last ten pounds" that seemed to hang on no matter what. She said, in part: "I've been looking at various diets for this, but I'm most interested in Nutrisystem. How long do you think it would take me to lose those ten pounds if I used Nutrisystem?" I will try to answer this question in the following article.
Typical Nutrisystem Results And What This Means In Terms Of A 10 Pound Weight Loss: The company literature indicates that they consider their "typical results" to be around 2 - 3 pounds per week. If you go by this estimate alone, you're looking at anywhere from 3 1/2 - 5 weeks in order to meet the goal of losing ten pounds. And, if you take the mean of this, you're looking at about a month.
However, it's my opinion that these estimates don't take exercising or careful choosing of the side items at each meal into account. There are a couple of reasons that I think this (although this is only my own opinion.) One of the most persuasive is that there are plenty of people on forums that do better than these estimates. (To be fair, there are people who do worse also.) Many of the people who lose more than this do so by adding in at least some exercise and by choosing low glycemic sides to ensure that they're able to get into ketosis as quickly as possible.
So, even though it appeared that the person who sent the email was going to be able to become quite close to her goal of ten pounds lost after three - four weeks, I felt that if she were able to add even a little movement into her day (like power walking or biking) and was conscientious about the side items that she chose, she could be more comfortable that she would be able to lose those ten pounds within her timeline.
In fact, if you notice the literature regarding Nutrisystem and auto delivery, you'll notice that it often indicates that this option is a good idea if you are in a situation where you need to lose more than 10 pounds. The reason for this (in my opinion) is that it's generally thought that you would've lost those same pounds by the time your monthly package was up (which takes about four weeks.) Of course, everyone is different and results vary depending on compliance, but this woman had a very immediate motivation.
