I get a lot of emails asking me to compare Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem. By far, the most common questions have to do with the cost of both programs. People want to know which is more expensive, which is the cheaper, and if either diet has hidden fees like a membership fee or a required contract. I'll go over these concerns in the following article.
Cost Comparison Of A Month Of Jenny Craig Versus A Month Of Nutrisystem: Most people who figure the cost of diets compare this based upon the price of a month of food. The price of Jenny's food is a bit more expensive, generally running around $12 per day or about $360 if you are figuring this out monthly. But, you're not just paying for the food with Jenny. You also have to pay per pound. Not this isn't a large amount of money. It's generally something like "lose twenty five pounds for twenty five dollars" or something like that. But still, it is a charge that's there. And, there is more of a commitment also.
You have to go into the clinic and weigh in and that's when you're given your food. In contrast, there's no such commitment with Nutrisystem. The cost of the basic monthly plan is about $300 which is about $10 per day. But, the company is pretty good about offering coupons so you can often get this down to about $8 per day or $240 per month. Plus, there is no cost per pound or clinic requirement. You're only paying for your food that's shipped. They offer free counseling too which is a bonus for which I feel most people don't realize the value. If you tried to pay from this on "the outside" it would easily cost as much as you're paying for food if not more which is a pretty good value.
And, when you are ready to stop the diet, you just don't order your next shipment of food. Basically, you're going from month to month on your own. You simply don't place an order when you're happy enough with your results and feel that you are ready to stop. Some people really like this and some feel that this gives you too much leeway and / or doesn't provide enough accountability. That's why some like "checking in" at a Jenny Craig clinic. Some really need this face to face support and some find the phone or online counseling with Nutrisystem more than enough. It really depends on your personality and on your comfort level with "checking in" face to face.
The Cheapest Monthly Cost Of All: If price is your main consideration, the one that has the lowest price point in Nutrisystem Flex. But understand it's so little because this directly corresponds with the amount of food that is shipping. The flex plan allows you to take two days per week off. Therefore, you have eight less days for which to cover food each month. Although the $234 monthly price is very attractive, understand that you're getting this because you're getting less food. In fact, I know some folks who will use coupons on the $300 package (to get it down to around $240) and just take two days off each week as they see fit. Since the foods for the basic and the flex plan aren't any different, this actually works out to be the cheapest option when you consider cost per meal. It really depends upon your objectives and on how long you plan to stay on either diet.
